How to spot scams that use our name

Fake job offers are common, and recruitment brands are a favorite target. Here is how we really work, so you can tell straight away if a message is not from us.

We will never

  • ask you to pay anything to get a job: no fees for applications, training, equipment, visas or “registration”. Candidates never pay us.
  • send you a cheque or money and ask you to send some of it back, or to buy gift cards or cryptocurrency.
  • offer you a job without speaking to you first.
  • ask for your bank details, Social Security number or ID documents before you have a written job offer.

Warning signs to look out for

  • The pay is far higher than the job would normally earn, or the job sounds too easy.
  • You are pushed to decide quickly, or told to keep the offer secret.
  • The whole “interview” happens by text message on WhatsApp or Telegram.
  • Messages come from a free email address (such as Gmail) and use our name.
  • You are asked to buy equipment from a particular supplier and promised a refund later.

If you have been contacted

  1. Stop. Do not pay anything, and do not share personal or bank details.
  2. Check with us. Contact us using the details below, not the details in the message, and ask whether the offer is real.
  3. Report it. In the US, report job scams to the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov and to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov.
  4. If you have already paid, contact your bank or card provider straight away. They may be able to stop or reverse the payment.

Tell us about it

If someone has used our name, we want to know, even if you did not lose any money. Your report helps us warn others.
